New Year's Resolutions

Big Picture Resolution: Again we face the end of a year (wow... decade!). The past year (and decade) have been very eventful. Despite some amazing events, it seems that people have become increasingly divisive over the past ten years. I hope that 2010 and the 2010s are a period where peacefulness among people improves. Whether it is between neighbors on the street or among world neighbors, I hope that we all resolve to act with compassion and to treat others as we wish to be treated. This is my prayer. It reminds me Sheryl Crow singing "Out of Our Heads," in which the lyrics of the chorus read:
If we could only get out of our heads, out of our heads
And into our hearts
Children of Abraham lay down your fears, swallow your
Tears and look to your heart

Perhaps we need to act out of our comfort zone; perhaps we need to experience something different. But we must do what is right.

YouVersion Reading Plans

Little Resolution: I spent seven years of my life at a Christian school, was raised in the church and have always considered myself a Christian. Why then have I always given up on reading the Bible? Once again, I resolve that I will read the Bible in one year. (Hold me accountable!) Upgrades to an iPhone App (YouVersion) and its corresponding website, www.youversion.com, seem to make this goal attainable as I will always have a Bible (and reading plan) at my fingertips.

I plan to read the New Living translation (my favorite translation, the New Revised Standard Version, is not available on YouVersion). I intend on reading the Bible using the 'chronological' approach. This means that the Bible has been reorganized to put the events in order as they would have historically occurred.

Have you set any New Year's resolutions? If you'd like to join me in reading the Bible this year, please let me know in the comments and we can hold each other accountable!
