The Labyrinth

I have always loved a labyrinth. The concept is pure and simple - a winding circular path with multiple 'layers'. Although at a glance it may appear to be a maze, a labyrinth has only one path you can take from the outside to the center and out again. The path is intended to be used as a meditative time. I took the above picture at a 40-foot diameter, 7-circuit labyrinth outside a church in downtown Morehead, Kentucky; at its center is a statute of St. Francis of Assisi.

I am reminded of the labyrinth from a friend's blog I discovered last week. Rev. Laura Barclay is an ordained minister at the Wake Forest Baptist Church (wholly unafilliated with the Southern Baptists). Her blog, The Winding Labyrinth, is one that spreads Jesus' true message - one of social justice, equality and love.

Let us remember and reflect those values this holiday season as we remember the birth of the Lord.
